Post Production for Videos:
A Brief Overview
Phase One: Assistant Editing
When we finish a shoot, the first thing we have to do is load and back up the footage (often hundreds of gigs worth!), sync audio and video, create and organize our project files, and cut interviews and script reads down to usable takes
Interview Response String-Out
String-Outs
For many projects, we’ll start by creating sequences containing things like usable b-roll footage, interview responses, or all takes of a line read or action

Phase Two: Rough Cuts

Early Versions
For many projects, it makes sense to identify the story elements and create an ultra simplified version of the video as our first rough cut. Sometimes we make what we call a Narrative Assembly, where we create a sequence of soundbites with no other elements.
We also might create a Radio Edit which, as the name suggests, is an edit focused on the audio elements. This lets us get on the same page about the story, music and pacing. In either case, these steps help make sure we’re aligned before we move forward.

Notes, Revisions & Approvals
As we move through the rough cut phase, we’ll share review links where you and your colleagues can watch the new version, and collaboratively add notes or mark that version as approved..
When you leave notes, we’ll look at your feedback and create a new version of the video that reflects those desired changes, send an updated review link, and repeat the cycle.
When the video is approved and “picture locked,” we’ll move onto the next phase.

Phase Three: Finishing Touches
Once the video is picture locked, it means we won’t be changing any of the video footage or audio tracks. This is when we can work on color, sound mixing, and final graphics.
